Barrie Rose and June Wayne (1918 - 2011), A World Premiere

On June 24, MB Abram Galleries hosted singer/songwriter/performance artist Barrie Rose and director Matt Friedman in studio for the recording of Rose's new song "Breakthrough", presented here as a collaboration between Rose and select mixed-media works of June Wayne (1918-2011).

This "duet" between Rose and Wayne was a natural, two fearless experimentalists speaking to renewal and change. In the words of Rose, Wayne may be gone, but "her art will live on and on". Also check out Rose's fantastic recent video "The Greatest Life", demonstrating that Rose's artistry, like Wayne's, will be around to inspire us for many years to come.

June Wayne, Pablo Picasso, Catch Desire by the Tail

Pablo Picasso wrote the surrealist play Catch Desire by the Tail in 1941 in occupied Paris.
It was performed before a private audience of artists in 1944, with Albert Camus narrating, and Simone de Beauvoir, Jean-Paul Sartre, Dora Maar, Raymond Queneau, and others in the cast.

In 1984, the Guggenheim Museum, New York, and the Ubu Repertory Theater, with the support of the Picasso Estate, François Gilot and Yves Saint Laurent, restaged the play, with live musical accompaniment. The cast featured artists June Wayne, David Hockney, Louise Bourgeois, Red Grooms, Beverly Pepper, Phillippine de Rothschild, Marisol, and Jack Youngerman.

June Wayne: Propeller, Mixed Media, and Paintings - April 19th, 2018

On April 19, 2018 MB Abram Galleries inaugurated the exhibit "June Wayne: Propeller, Mixed Media, and Paintings" in downtown Los Angeles. While Wayne's lithographs are frequently exhibited, we were excited to provide a showing of the extraordinary range and daring of her far rarer paintings and mixed media works.

The video and accompanying photos here provide a glimpse of the festive feeling surrounding the exhibit, taking place only a few weeks after the the City Council and Mayor of Los Angeles recognized in an official proclamation the accomplishments of Wayne, a native of Chicago who adopted Los Angeles as her City. This proclamation was issued on the Centenary of her birth, March 7, 2018.
